“Cool Creatures” Visit Primary 4

The children in Primary 4 had a great afternoon meeting Calum from “Cool Creatures” who introduced them to a range of animals from the classification groups they have been studying. All the children were given the opportunity to handle “Brave” the meerkat, “Max” the tortoise, “Ellie” the armadillo, some millipedes and finally the giant Burmese Python. They also got the chance to see “Jeremiah” the dwarf bullfrog who kept trying to jump across the room looking for dark places to hide. As you can see from the videos everyone had a fantastic time putting their animal science skills to good use working out which animal group each of the visitors belonged to. Well done everyone, our next step will be looking at popular pets from each group with hopefully more visitors to class next term.

Playing Out

On Friday under the council’s Play Out scheme, Jameson Place was closed and transformed into a community play area. Inspired by Biomorphis and Leith Creative, visitors were challenged to construct and design a street hut. Children and adults alike joined in to have fun and create visually stunning street huts. Aided by tea, coffee and other goodies – a good time was had by all.

Our Secret Garden

At last work is underway to plant up our secret garden space. The planters and seating are completed. The astroturf is cut and placed. We have been in touch with Dobbie’s Garden Centre to ask for their advice on what plants will provide us with all year round greenery and survive in that shaded spot. Our helpers today were removing some of the excess sand and readying the place for planting. Within, the next week we will be looking for volunteers to help us plant up.
